Proprietary and quirky. Dremel’s Idea Builder could use some work. Please read before buying I am a Vine reviewer, and really put a lot of effort into testing the products that Amazon sends me. This was no exception.Upon receipt, this seemed utterly fantastic. It was boxed in a secure, fun way, and their marketing department did a great job of building the enthusiasm with color and design. The unit itself looks great. The color-changeable LED lighting is tricked out and can be a lot of fun.The preloaded patterns are simple, but Dremel is trying, I assume, to give you entry-level projects to get your feet wet with. More on this in a minute.I need to preface the rest of this review with the fact that a good friend of mine is an engineer at JPL and uses 3D modeling printers daily, both in professional and personal life. I asked him to help me with this review, so you, the Amazon customer, can have a more wide knowledge-base from which to decide on your purchase. The first thing we did was to print a test print–the…

Fun for family, safe for the family room or bedroom Fully updated review!Quick Note: I’ve seen a lot of comments about no user manual. Once you order your Dremel, you will have at least two days before it arrives. Go to the Dremel website and watch all of the quick and to-the-point videos that cover everything from unpacking to leveling to starting your first print. Then when your printer arrives, you will be prepared and ready to go. Plus you can refer back to the videos as you set up, or you can do what I did: just call Dremel’s customer support and say “Hey, I my printer just arrived, its still in the box. help me set it up!”.Like everyone else, I always go to the worst review first, and he (Amazon Customer Since only Books were sold) provides exceptional useful counterpoint information, so please check it out. In fact it was largely based on his recommendations and warnings that I made my decision to purchase. When I got the machine I immediately experience some…

The Dremel Idea Builder 3D printer is fun for the whole family young or young at heart! The Dremel 3D20 Idea Builder 3D Printer is a top notch digital device that has performed well for me over the past few weeks. In this review, I am sharing my experiences both good and bad to help you understand how this product really works.*ITS SAFE TO PLAY WITH THIS PLASTIC* The PLA plastic is made from food starches, a corn product in the US. It is used as screws and support inside the human body where it dissolves in 3 to 6 months. For this reason making objects to hold hot liquids is probably not a good idea. The plastic melts in the extruder at 210 deg C(428 deg F), so it is not going to melt the first time it encounters a hot liquid. The PLA plastic also avoids the controversy over small pieces of plastic getting into the lungs and causing problems, because it will dissolve in a few months, anyway.*SETUP* The Dremel 3D Printer arrived promptly at my front door from Amazon in a nice thick cardboard box. I noticed that an SD microchip…
